Huataoyao is a place with natural scenery and cultural activities. Kilns, pottery, flowers, and scenery all show the unique art of Taiwanese garden.
Huataoyao was built against a mountain and situated in the forests. With red bricks, archways, black roof tiles, and wooden beams, it incorporated Japanese, Dutch, and Chinese architecture styles to create an unusual fashion of Taiwanese garden.
Huataoyao passes down traditional firewood burning kilns known as terraced kilns. They were damaged during 921 Earthquake and were rebuilt in 2004, so that Huataoyao can continue its pottery production. The pottery, calligraphy, flower arrangement, and works of poetry that you can see here also show the energy and creativity of Huataoyao.
The local botanical garden behind Huataoyao occupies an area of 5 hectares. It has about 530 kinds of local plants. The lotus pond, stone pathways, green willows, pavilions, combining with architecture, pottery, poetry, and ecology, make it an entertaining plant garden with educational function.
For the past twenty years, Huataoyao has been firm about its faith of “rooting in the local culture.” In the moving orbit of Taiwan’s climate, geology, history, and human activities, Huataoyao is a living example of “conversation with nature.”
Huataoyao insists the principle that only a limited number of visitors are allowed per day; thus, many people are forced to give up. By doing so, visitors always experience the best side of Huataoyao, and this place has hence been an example of similar humanistic exhibition places.
In Huataoyao, tourists can appreciate the garden, enjoy a guided tour of the botanical garden, take a look at the records and films of actual events, witness firing kilns, make pottery artworks, and have Chinese buffet. The seasonal tours are botanical garden night trip, tea feast, and music appreciation. Huataoyao also arranges unscheduled performances of opera, music, singing, or literature to add more cultural colors.
