Over the year, the theme of the national wood carving contest has always been creativity and heritage. From the entries, one can see Taiwan wood carving industry in evolution as well as the efforts of newcomers and veterans who have worked to preserve this cultural heritage. Every year, we welcome outstanding wood carving works created by traditional woodcarving craftsmen around the island, designers of wood utensils, aboriginal artists from Taidong and Hualien as well as art students. For us, the contest is a carnival as it encompasses works of multiple styles and diverse subjects created by different techniques. Some of the art pieces are simple but powerful. Some express personal emotion and reflect the society. Without a doubt, wood carving is an art with abundant diversity. |
